Week #2

Boa Tarde! So did it end up sending you all the picture ok? There was about 24 of them. After I sent them all i sent me a message that said it didn't send them for some reason. But if you got them great! I was super bummed out cause I didn't think they sent. Any way we are only supposed to have 30 mins on p-day to email and after that it notifies your branch president if you stay on much longer. My emails have been really cut down the last two weeks cause of problems with my account lettting me on. But I think we got it all figuered out. Even today I'm cut down to only 20 mins. So I'll try to fill in as much as possible. I have a super hard time typing and spelling because all the portuguese makes it hard to do stuff in english so sorry plus the computer I'm on is a joke cause it's s laggy and slow. Christmas was awesome. Russel M. Nelson was the apostle that came and talked to us. It was really cool when he walked into the gym because everyone stood up and the spirit testified that a man of great power and faith was in the room. We didn't do a whole bunch on Christmas. We had breakfast, then personal sudy time, and then we went and got ready for the two choir number we were supposed to sing during the Christmas devotional. Me and Elder Saxton are in the Choir and we sang two pieces. One was a beautiful song called where shepards lately knelt. And then we sang a tough rendition of The first Noel. But it was also very beautiful and it went great. Elder Nelson spoke to us about the atonement and how me must all take advantage of the great miracle that it is. He also dispelled the rumor that there were missionaries getting calls to learn chinese for 1 year and then go to china for another two years. He said it was competely and utterly false and to cease spreading that rumor. Anyway Everything is still going great here at the mtc. We got two more roomates on the 19th Elder Williams and Elder Thayne. They are great Elders and they are both going to Portugal. Elder Saxton doesn't like them speaking portuguese since it sounds different than brazilian portuguese. He likes to try and correct them. He also gets a little irritated with me if I talk too much portuguese. He's doing alot better though and has been able to start speaking and picking up the language better. Our class is doing great with everything. I think we have the hardest working portuguese district here. Our distict leade,r Elder Cameron is super great and helpful. He's really chilled and relaxed but he makes sure we work hard and get stuff done. A typical day here starts with waking up at 6:30 going to breakfast at 7 then personal study from 7:30 till 8:30 then our teacher teaches us unil 11:30, then we have lunch and gym after that. I usually play knockout basketball and foursquare but we can also play volleyball or run on the track above. I ran 2 miles on monday and I almost killed over and died cause I was so tired. It felt good after, though. After gym we usually go back for more language study and computer language study. then at 4:30 we have dinner and then we do more study and our teacher teaches till 9:30 and then we go back to the dorms and pass out on our bed and repeat again the next day. It's great though and there is nothing I love more than being here and learning more about the gospel. The days seem long but the week just melt together. Btw tell Kaden happy birthday yesterday. I thought of him several times throughout the day. Also tell grandma thanks so much for the goodies it was such a relief to finally get a package full of goodies. Thanks for the emails and the hoodie and pushup bars. I got them today. Yesterday 43 people got sick from eating this beef casserole for lunch that I ate too and was fine, but 3 got sick and threw up during gym time. Also another one from our zone dislocated his finger playing basketball yesterday but he's doing ok. It's snowed a good foot here in the last week and everybody is having fun throwing snowballs around and stuff. Every sunday and on christmas we go walk around the temple. The provo temple has been closed the last 2 weeks and doesnt open until january second so I haven't been able to go and do a session yet which stinks super bad but this next friday I'll be able to go again so I'm super excited for that. We did that white elephant gift giving on christmas and I got 5 bucks worth of peach rings to give as my present. I ended up with a random piece of paper with portuguese words and 2 mechanical pencils. But thats alright we were also super happy to spend Christmas together. I'm so jealous you guys get to go on the sweet vacation next month!!! What the heck! you guys have fun though cause I'll have more fun than you guys in Brazil anyway :) Sorry my email is all over the place I dont remember what I was going to say. Email me the questions you still need answered or whatever your curioous on. I'm super late for dinner so I have to get running. Let everyone know I love them. A IGREJA E VERDADEIRA!

Love you all. - Elder Kennington

Merry Christmas Letter 2012

Hola Familia! Feliz Natal!! They are letting us check and write emails real quick today, thanks for all the presents from you guys they were really special to me and I'm super happy for them. All is well here at the Provo MTC there will be a General Authority coming today so I'll let you know on Friday who it was and how it was. I'm sure happy I'm here at Provo cause there have been some awesome talks that I needed to hear and great people I needed to meet. So I'm in great shape here the language is going good and the Lord has poured out his blessings upon our district. Everyone is picking ip portuguese really fast. You are all in my prayers and I miss you guys but I feel great and I know this is where I am supposed to be no doubt. May we never forget the matchless gift of our Savior and his Atonement. Take good care!

#1 letter From Provo MTC 12/21/2012

Oi Familia! Tudo bem??? The Mtc is an awesome place! The Sprit is so powerful here! It was pretty crazy right after my host showed me to my room he took me up to my language building and they just started going crazy talking in nothing but Portuguese! Luckily I was able to understand some of what they were saying and I was able to watch all the mtc training videos that I was required to watch. I was the first in my district to arrive and I also had first pick of the bunk I wanted (bottom cause it's ten times easier to make in the morning. I was soon introduced to my MTC Companion Elder Brady Saxton from Evanston, Wyoming. He's taller and more lurpy than me! But he has a superb work ethic. He is also going to the Brazil, Cuiaba mission. It took a little while for us to get used to eachother because our personalities were totally on the other side of the spectrum, he wants to be an accountant one day. he's not into any sports or anything outdoorsy. But that's alright the Lord has taught me patience and the miracles of being obedient. Portuguese is a kick to the face cause it's super tough but I've been learning it well and the Lord has blessed me everyday with it. I'm still ahead of my class in the language but I've been trying to take it easy so they don't feel like they are way behind or something. Elder Saxton is having a rough time with the language and gets a little frustrated if I quiz him at random times on it during the day. But he's getting better especially with help from the Sister missionaries in our district because he really clicks with the sisters well. It's pretty rare when there is more sisters in a district than elders, we have 6 sisters and 5 elders. Their names are Elder Cameron-Sao Pualo do Sol, Elder Martineau-Sao Paulo do sol,-Elder Merrill-Sau Paulo do sol,- Sister Schwitters-Sao Paulo do sol, Sister Davis-Sao Paulo do sol, Sister Standland-Sau Paulo do Sol, Sister Littell-Campinas, Sister Howell- Campinas, and Sister Clark-Cuiaba, Elder Saxton, and me.They are all awesome and I have became good friends with all of them and they have been great examples to me. The sisters are work animals! They don't stop studying for 6 hours straight! I can't do that no way, I have to take breaks and go stretch my legs and talk to the other Elders from other Districts. Everyone is so nice and funny especially all the Elders waiting to go to Brazil which is probably close to 80 or so. Also that yellow fever proof card is what I need not my imuniaztions cards I have plenty of those. It's a little yellow booklet that has lots of foldouts that pretty much is proof that I have gotten the yellow fever shot. without it I can't enter Brazil. I remember them giving it to mom and I when we went to provo to get those shots. It's about 5 inches tall by 4 inches wide and is yellow. I could probably use those push up bars that I have in the coner of my room cause alot of guys use them here and I don't want to buy new ones in the book store. Maybe a hoodie or something wouldn't hurt either though. Doesn't matter though I can handle it all. Anyway I got all your letters from everyone and emails. I was super stoked hearing about Corbins call last night! Calgary Canada is the place!!! I plan on writing him but let him know I love him and that I'm proud of him. Anyway I'm past my alloted time for e-mails so I'll talk to you next week. I love this work and I love how it changes us. 9 days and already the mtc has changed me in ways I would have never thought. btw Me and Elder Saxton committed our first investigator to Baptism yesterday! Seu nome e mike and he liked playing xbox and sitting around at his house. But now he really has something to live for. Anyway love all you guys I'm getting fat from eating and sitting and studying (jk) food is good though. A Igreja e verdadeira! ate logo :)

Skyler Enters the MTC in Provo

December 12, 2012
Today, Skyler entered the Provo Missionary Training Center at 12:45PM. We arrived in Provo Early and spent some time taking pictures around the Provo Temple. The weather was warm and we couldn't have asked for a better day.  At around 11, we thought that we would go to the Brazillian Grill, Tuscans.  When we arrived they turned us away, because we didn't have a reservation and they had Business Christmas Parties scheduled.  Big let down.  We went next door the the Baja Mexican Grill.  It was good. You could tell that Skyler didn't have much of an appetite.  We then walked around the Mall and picked him up some new Cologne "Paris" for men at Bath and Body Works, my favorite place to go.  We still had time, so Skyler wanted to go back to the temple and wait there. We took more pictures. I didn't want to waste any time with him so I captured them on camera the best I could. It arrived time that we needed to drop him off.  We were doing really well, until then.  Our emotions took over and we were all overwhelmed that we wouldn't be able to see or be with him for 2 years.  I think this was the hardest thing any of our little family had to do.  We entered the gates, and the Direction Greeter, peeked in our car how many missionaries do you have dropping off? 3?? He was cute.  He put a sticker on our windshield and to head left down the hill until we can stop.  All the way down the road we were greeted by sweet young Elders waving and smiling at us and telling us Welcome. It was heartwhelming to see their love and excitement.

ex·cite·ment

/ikˈsītmənt/
Noun
  1. A feeling of great enthusiasm and eagerness.
  2. Something that arouses such a feeling; an exciting incident.

We agreed to let his Dad, Kelly be the one to get out with him and help him get his luggage.  I hung out the window, taking as many last minute pictures of our son.  He was welcomed by a blond Elder who smiled the whole time and waited patiently as we said our quick goodbyes. This Elder happened to be going to Brazil as well, but to a different area.  What a coincidence or was it?  The best part of my goodbye with him, was when he came back over to the car window and leaned in and gave me one more big hug.  While we were still at the drop off curb, an Elder went by and I heard him say he was from Roosevelt.  I piped up and said "we're from Roosevelt too".  When he turned around it was a classmate Braxton Nielsen.  We were excited and took more pictures.  Then he was off and I continued to take pictures until he was out of site.  Bless you my son...you are in the Lords hands now! We're going to miss that kid! We had a great day with him.  Our son Kaden, kept commenting that he already missed Skyler.
